Need Help? We've Got You Covered
Below are the questions we are asked most often, covering supported languages, how the translation is produced, what happens to your data, and the limits worth knowing about. If your question isn't answered here, reach us through the Contact page.
General
What is TranslatePro?
TranslatePro is a free, browser-based translation tool. You type text, pick a language pair, and get a translation back within a second. You can also save words to a personal vocabulary list stored on your own device.
Is TranslatePro free to use?
Yes. There is no subscription, no usage quota, and no registration or login. The site is funded by advertising, so you may see ads alongside the tool.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There are no accounts at all. Everything you save is written to your own browser's local storage rather than to a user profile on our side.
Does the site show ads?
Yes. We use Google as a third-party advertising vendor. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve personalised ads. You can turn off ad personalisation at any time — see our Privacy Policy for the opt-out links.
Languages
How many languages are supported?
Twelve: English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, and Hindi. Any pair among these can be translated in either direction.
Can TranslatePro detect the source language automatically?
Not currently. The translation service we use requires an explicit language pair, so you need to select the source language yourself. If you pick the wrong one, the output will usually look obviously off — just switch it and the translation re-runs.
How do I reverse the translation direction?
Use the swap button between the two language dropdowns. It exchanges the two languages and also swaps the text between the input and output panels.
Can you add a language that isn't in the list?
Possibly. The list is limited by what our translation provider supports reliably. Send us a request through the Contact page and we will look into it.
Accuracy
How does the translation actually work?
Your text is sent to the MyMemory translation API. It first searches a large translation memory made up of segments that were previously translated by humans, and falls back to machine translation when no close match exists. The best match is what you see in the output panel.
How accurate are the translations?
Good enough for everyday text, and often better than pure machine output for common phrases because of the human-translated translation memory behind it. It is still automated translation, however. Anything legal, medical, contractual, academic, or safety-critical should be reviewed by a qualified human translator before you rely on it.
How can I get better results?
Keep sentences short and complete, avoid slang and heavy idioms, spell things correctly, and translate one sentence or short paragraph at a time rather than a whole document. Ambiguous single words are the hardest case, since there is no surrounding context to disambiguate them.
Privacy & Data
Where does the text I type go?
It is sent over HTTPS to the MyMemory translation API for processing. We do not store it on our own servers, and we do not run a database of user translations.
Is my translated text kept by anyone?
MyMemory operates a public translation memory, which means text submitted to it may be retained by that provider and contribute to its shared corpus. For that reason, please do not enter passwords, financial details, health information, or other sensitive personal data into the tool.
Where are my history and saved words stored?
In your browser's local storage, on your device. They are never uploaded to us. This also means they disappear if you clear your browser data, use private browsing, or switch to another device or browser — export your list from the Favorites page if you want a backup.
Do you use cookies or tracking?
We use local storage for the tool's own features. Our advertising partner may set cookies for ad delivery and measurement. Full detail, including how to opt out of personalised advertising, is in our Privacy Policy.
Features
How do I save a word or phrase?
Once a translation appears, click the star icon in the toolbar above the panels. A dialog lets you assign a category — such as IELTS, TOEFL, Business, or Travel — and add your own notes before saving.
Where can I find my saved vocabulary?
On the Favorites page. You can search across words, translations, and notes, filter by category, create new categories, edit notes, play pronunciation, and delete entries.
Can I export my saved words?
Yes. The Favorites page exports your whole list as either JSON or CSV, which you can keep as a backup or import into a flashcard app.
Is there a translation history?
Yes. The clock icon in the toolbar opens a history panel holding your most recent 50 translations. Click any entry to load it back into the panels, or use Clear All to wipe it.
Can I hear the pronunciation?
Yes. The speaker icon above each panel reads that text aloud using the speech voices already installed in your browser or operating system. Voice quality and language coverage therefore depend on your device, not on us.
Can I copy the translation?
Yes — the copy icon above the output panel puts the translation on your clipboard.
Technical
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, for translation. Every translation is a network request to the translation service, so the tool cannot translate offline. Pronunciation playback may still work offline because it uses locally installed voices.
Is there a limit on how much text I can translate at once?
The translation service is designed for short segments — roughly a sentence or two at a time — and very long input may fail or return an error instead of a translation. Split longer passages into smaller chunks.
Do I need to press a translate button?
No. Translation fires automatically about half a second after you stop typing, and again whenever you change either language.
Which browsers are supported?
All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Pronunciation playback relies on the browser's speech synthesis support, which is the feature most likely to differ between browsers.
Is there a mobile app?
No. TranslatePro is a website only, but the layout is responsive and works on phones and tablets.
Why is a translation slow or failing?
Usually the translation service is rate-limiting requests or is temporarily unavailable, or the input is too long. Wait a moment and try again with shorter text.
Support
How do I contact you?
Use the Contact page for questions, feedback, bug reports, or privacy requests.
Can I suggest a feature?
Yes, please do. Feature requests through the Contact page are welcome and help us decide what to build next.
How do I report a bug?
Report it through the Contact page. Telling us the language pair, the text you entered, and which browser you used makes it much easier to reproduce.
